RESIDENTIAL · Neuilly-sur-Seine · 2022 · 180 m² · Full renovation of a 1960s apartment
A 1960s apartment in the centre of Neuilly-sur-Seine, correct and without character, to be warmed up without inventing a past for it. The brief was one sentence long: make it practical and easy to maintain. The rest was left to the studio, which began with the one asset of the place, large windows and clean light from morning to evening.
The living room is treated like a gallery, its walls kept pale, the decoration cut back so that the light and the works occupy the volume. Glass was set into every door in the apartment, so that daylight crosses the partitions instead of stopping at them. Wood comes next, in vertical screens and joinery, and gives the warmth the building never had.
The kitchen, long and narrow, was cut into zones: the worktop on one side, a round dining nook for meals alone, a small laundry slipped into the depth. Nothing announces the bedroom. It is found behind a pocket door opening off the living room, in a vanilla shell that holds the light. Against the muted envelope, a few pieces carry the colour on their own: a ceramic sculpture-chair by the fireplace, a gilded floor lamp standing as though it had grown there.
