RESIDENTIAL · Paris 16th, Trocadéro · 2020 · 160 m² · Renovation of a 1930s duplex
On the Rue Lauriston, a 1980s cut-stone building, classical and without a story. Behind the door, a 180 m² duplex with a 1930s interior, its walls entirely lined with wood panelling. Sun and time had damaged the panelling. Removing it was never considered.
So it was restored, given a patina and darkened, the parquet with it, at the cost of the technical constraints such work implies. Making old with new, to recover the convivial atmosphere of the period and to support the Art Deco of the place rather than contradict it. The entrance, originally drawn as a somewhat stiff wooden box, receives a console with soft curves drawn for it.
Dark wood crushes anything that hesitates: the furniture was chosen in frank shapes, able to hold in front of it, and in the lines of the 1930s. Elsewhere the apartment breathes. The kitchen, open to the dining room, was treated as a painted blue nebula, with a cold marble bar. The bathroom, entirely rebuilt, recovers its Art Deco around a bespoke Imperador marble vanity top and a fluted oak unit. Upstairs, the main bedroom, where the Fly Gaby wall light hangs above a vintage desk, opens onto a terrace laid out as a room in its own right.
