RESIDENTIAL · Paris 9th · 2025 · 240 m² · Full renovation of a house on three levels
In the 9th arrondissement, a house on three levels, an L-shaped plan, a mezzanine, and volumes in which one loses one's bearings. The façade announces Art Deco. Inside, it was a maze of rooms. It had to be made rational without losing any of its scale, and the line already legible from the street had to be brought indoors.
The answer came from wood, and from a fitting-out job handled like a stage set. A wide oak panelling forms the backdrop to the dining room. Vertical oak facings give the double living room its rhythm and its depth. The kitchen is framed in an arch painted ruby grape, with walnut fronts and a top and splashback in glowing Alicante marble. Each space defines itself differently, within one open plan.
The steel balustrade of the mezzanine sets the vocabulary the other rooms take up: angles held rather than softened, black and wine-red lacquers. Four bedrooms and three bathrooms follow, with oak headboards underlined in black. The furniture arrives in curves to balance the angles. The studio's own pieces slip in: Le Damier as a side table, La Corbeille wall lights, Le Fontainebleau floor lamp, Le Sorbet ottoman used as a bedside table. Beside them, a coffee table by Maxime Old, a stool by Pierre Chareau, and Danish chairs found at auction.
