The 15th arrondissement has something of a village about it, small shops and food merchants, with the Eiffel Tower and the gilded dome of the Invalides at the end of the street. The building had been left empty, a former budget hotel of which the neighbourhood kept a vague memory. It is the first hotel of the Orso group, and the decision was to take it somewhere other than Paris: towards a chic motel on the Italian Riviera.
The rooms play two registers depending on the floor. On the lower levels they stay small and efficient, motel in spirit, their windows opening onto an interior glass roof. Higher up the tone shifts to the sleeping car of a night train: lacquered and varnished wood for the headboards and shelves, brass reading lights, up to the top-floor junior suite with its double balcony and a skylight above the bed.
Terrazzo runs from the floors to the vanity tops, and the coral and white striped curtains bring what is needed of the Riviera. On the third floor, a planted terrace opens onto the roofs, with a Nordic bath and an outdoor sauna. Below, a bar under a glass roof stands in for a common room, in the absence of a restaurant.
