In the old town of Ibiza, a penthouse on the top floor of a 1980s building, ringed by a large terrace. The location was argument enough; the place itself had neither the charm nor the soul of the fincas nearby. The decision was taken with the owner to break clearly with the original architecture. The brief was short: a holiday house for the whole family, where the sun is felt, where people are received, and which seems always to have been there.
Local microcement carries the whole, from floors to walls, with timber beams and doors taken from those of the old fincas. In the living room, an oversized sofa was built in the same microcement, a brick sofa with the air of the 1970s. It forms a reading corner with a large Indonesian wood coffee table, the place in the house where one settles for the day.
A long bar in lacquered pine and microcement separates the living room from the open kitchen. The dining room takes a vintage travertine table. Three bedrooms follow, each with its own bathroom, and a sitting room looking over the roofs of the old town. The terrace runs all the way round and brings everyone back outside.
