A Haussmann apartment near the République, to be made handsome without losing its use as a family home. The owners entertain, often and late, and arrived with a single formal requirement: the kitchen had to be wild. The studio took them at their word and reversed the hierarchy of the rooms. The kitchen holds the leading part, and everything else is settled in relation to it.
It is wrapped in wine red, from the cupboards to the ceiling, in glossy lacquer, and plays on everything that returns light: chrome steel, brass, antiqued mirror, an Emperador marble top. The staging begins earlier, though, at the entrance, with a small oak tunnel and a floor pattern of marbles and travertine that underlines the openings of the double living room and traces the outline of the kitchen.
The rest calms the game. Under coffered ceilings, the double living room moves to a palette of orange beige and advances only in curves, with a bespoke kidney-shaped sofa in mohair velvet, the Smoking dish and the Serge side table beside it. The dining room takes a travertine and marble table drawn for the space, and an oak dresser whose niches hide a passage to the children's bedrooms. In the bedroom, a curved oak headboard and corner bedside tables drawn from the Yves model; in the bathroom, a shower in dusty pink terrazzo.
