A family house on three levels in Neuilly-sur-Seine, on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne. A full renovation, and an extension carried out with TAKT. The brief took one sentence to state and rather more to hold: gain space without losing privacy. The ground floor opens out for shared life, the children take the first floor, the main suite the top.

Oak holds the whole together, from the floors and joinery to the furniture drawn for the house. The front door, pierced with discs, cuts the light and lays it on the floor. The extension is clad in oak charred by the shou sugi ban method, which darkens the garden façade. In the kitchen, a J'adore quartzite worktop answers the foliage.

The Japanese influence is not in the objects but in the way one moves through the house: a sequence of spaces rather than a line of rooms, a framed view of green at every opening, a calmer way of living. The garden, designed with landscape architect Aliénor de Bailliencourt, comes right up to the windows, until the ground floor belongs as much to the outside as to the inside.
