A 1940s house in Cologny, on the shore of Lake Geneva. A strictly symmetrical façade, a bow window at the centre of the ground floor, and behind it the view that decides everything. The owners, a young couple of collectors, were entrusting the studio with their second project. The structure did not move: the original plan was kept in its symmetry, and the rooms still turn around the main living room.
The work went into the internal openings, cut to carry light from one volume to the next and to raise the doors. Two materials give the unity: white marble underfoot, and the red teak borrowed from yachting, in panels from room to room. The corridors and the entrance take the opposite line, in dark tones, so that the light rooms carry further.
The entrance sets the tone: red Verona marble edged in teak, a sculpture placed as a focal point, an armchair drawn for the house. The living room follows the same rule, with a bespoke rug beneath the owners' collected seating, the room staying a setting rather than a display case. The kitchen, all in wood, closes around an island of Lapland marble.
