The top two floors of a Haussmann building a stone's throw from the Parc Monceau, with Montmartre on one side and the Eiffel Tower on the other. The owner is Italian and has lived in Paris for fifteen years. Her brief was a challenge: prove that a Haussmann apartment can take Italian colours and Italian shapes.

The job began with a prohibition: no straight lines, no sharp angles. The passages open in arches, the staircase is finished in drawn lime plaster, the arcades take a satin sheen, the bespoke tables are given a patina. The large moves advance with the detail, and the detail is settled by touch. A palette of pink, orange and green runs through the apartment, as far as the orange cupboards of the round dining room, under a Murano glass chandelier.

The floors tell the rest. Designed with mosaicist Pierre Mesguich, they lead from one room to the next: a wave motif links the kitchen to the corridor, a frieze of Milanese rationalism frames a Venetian seminato, the entrance unfolds curves that answer the staircase. The studio's furniture settles in, with Le Colonel sofa and Le Capitaine armchairs in the living room, La Coupe chairs around a bespoke lacquered table, the Éliane wall light and Le Fontainebleau floor lamp in the entrance.
